The Model 3 has eight airbags as well as curtain and side impact protection

Which is the best version?
You might be tempted by the Performance model’s figures, but to be honest its neck-jarring acceleration can grow tiresome. What’s more, it was only after the 2023 facelift that it gained the suspension alterations that turned it into a truly distinct sports saloon; before this date, it’s little more than a quicker Model 3.

Frankly, though, the Long Range model is plenty fast enough and as its name suggests it offers the longest range of any Model 3, which makes it our pick. Expect to get between 240 and 290 miles from a full charge, depending on the weather. Facelifted models will offer a little more.
If you can’t stretch that far, the Standard Range Plus should manage between 190 and 230 miles per full charge – still perfectly acceptable for many drivers.
Is the Tesla Model 3 reliable?
It’s safe to say that Tesla’s reputation for reliability is not particularly brilliant. For all that, though, the Model 3 scores reasonable, if not exactly glowing, results in most reliability studies. For example, in the 2024 What Car? Reliability Survey, the Model 3 came 9th out of the 18 electric cars included, with a score of 89.5 per cent.
Most of the complaints from owners concerned bodywork, electrical and suspension issues, although the majority of failures didn’t prevent the car from being driven.
