What do I need to look out for?
Probably the most prevalent issue on the Model 3 is its general build quality. Make sure, for example, that all the panels line up properly, that the paint is consistent in appearance throughout, that the headlights aren’t filled with condensation and that there isn’t excess wind noise that could point to a failed seal or misaligned panel. In addition, damp carpets indicate water ingress.
Electrical glitches are not unknown, either – particularly the door handles, which can fail to pop out from the body. Windows sometimes refuse to drop when the doors are opened – or push back up into the window seals when they’re closed.
Finally, during a test drive listen for clunks or creaks from the suspension. These are heavy cars and they can be hard on their suspension bushes; ball joints are a frequent failure point, too.
How much should I pay for a Tesla Model 3?
With electric car values on the used market sliding all the time and the firm’s CEO Elon Musk’s political interventions taking their toll on the image of Tesla throughout the world, the Model 3 is now remarkably affordable. Prices start at £11,000 although that sum will only secure an early, high-mileage example.
