Afrobeats star Davido used the FIFA World Cup Countdown Concert in Los Angeles to draw international attention to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, Nigeria.
During his performance, Davido wore a custom-made jacket bearing the names of 39 abducted schoolchildren and seven teachers, along with the message “Bring Them Home.” The gesture was intended to raise awareness of their plight and keep public attention on the victims.
The children and teachers were abducted in May after armed attackers raided schools in the Ahoro-Esinele community of Oriire Local Government Area. The incident sparked widespread concern and calls for stronger security measures.
Davido later amplified the message on social media, reinforcing calls for the safe return of those still being held. His appearance at the FIFA event generated significant reactions online, with many praising him for using a global stage to highlight a humanitarian issue.
This formed part of FIFA’s countdown activities ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which is being hosted by United States, , and.
Before taking the stage, Davido shared a message highlighting the tragedy and urging quicker government intervention to rescue those still held captive.
‘’May God be with the families of the abducted and the ones that have been k!lled. It’s just a very very sad situation. We still haven’t been rescued. We are praying to God everyday and also praying to God that the government hastens up with their rescue.
