Russia has called on the United States and Iran to resume negotiations following a fresh escalation in hostilities between the two countries.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov urged all parties to show restraint and return to diplomacy, warning that further fighting could have consequences beyond the Middle East and affect the global economy. According to Peskov, Russia wants the sides to “exercise restraint and return to the negotiating table.”
The appeal comes after renewed U.S. strikes on Iranian targets and retaliatory actions by Iran, raising concerns about the stability of the region and the security of key energy routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
In response to the military pressure, Iran restricted transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a maritime chokepoint handling 20% of global oil, prompting a counter-naval blockade by the U.S. that has severely spiked global energy prices.
The warfare is further fueled by Iran’s backing of regional proxy groups, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, which frequently target U.S. bases and Israeli territory.
Diplomatic efforts remain entirely deadlocked because the U.S. demands the permanent dismantling of Iran’s advanced nuclear program, while Tehran refuses to negotiate under the threat of active bombing campaigns and crippling economic sanctions.
Russia, which has strengthened ties with Iran in recent years while continuing its war against Ukraine, has repeatedly said that diplomatic solutions are preferable to military escalation and has offered support for efforts aimed at reaching a negotiated settlement.
A concise headline could be:
“Russia urges U.S. and Iran to return to talks amid renewed conflict.”
