NBC is officially turning the hit word game Wordle into a primetime TV game show. The series will be hosted by Savannah Guthrie and executive-produced by Jimmy Fallon.
The show is being developed by NBC together with The New York Times and Fallon’s production company Electric Hot Dog.
According to NBC, the format will feature teams competing in “supersized” five-letter word battles for cash prizes, trying to recreate the strategy and social fun that made the daily puzzle so popular online.
A few details announced so far:
Filming is expected to begin later this year. The show is scheduled to premiere in 2027. Contestant casting is already open. The format is designed as a fast-paced family game show.
The original Wordle was created by software engineer Josh Wardle and later acquired by The New York Times in 2022 after becoming a global viral sensation.
