The President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh, has reacted to growing speculation about former President Goodluck Jonathan possibly contesting the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Okoh said many Nigerians are disappointed with the current political situation, but expressed concern that the opposition parties may not be strong enough to provide a credible alternative. He stated, “My worry is that the opposition cannot deliver,” while discussing talks about Jonathan’s possible return to politics. (arisenews.com)
Okoh noted that some Nigerians see Jonathan as a symbol of stability because of the peaceful way he handed over power after losing the 2015 election. However, he said any decision about contesting in 2027 remains entirely up to Jonathan and the political parties involved. (vanguardngr.com)
There has been increasing political speculation in recent months over whether Jonathan could return to frontline politics, although the former president has not officially declared any intention to run for office. (punchng.com)
