We’re talking, of course, about the recently released film Animal Farm, based on George Orwell’s novella. The movie features a voice cast including Seth Rogen, Steve Buscemi, Kieran Culkin, Woody Harrelson, and Serkis himself. Produced on a reported budget of $35 million, Animal Farm has only grossed around $5 million so far. In its second weekend, it delivered a per-theater average of just $310 at the domestic box office, grossing $660,000. Animal Farm opened to a poor C- grade on CinemaScore, and is now sitting at a 26% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The aggregator website’s consensus reads, “All Animal Farm adaptations are equal, but some Animal Farm adaptations are more watchable than others.”
Serkis is now working on The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the first live-action film of the franchise since the Hobbit series. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
