The End of the Rainbow
“You can’t have a rainbow without first some rain.”
Then we first got involved in network marketing in
1997, we saw the opportunity to control our destinies.
Our belief that we could be successful with this vehicle
overpowered our fears. We shared this business with all of our
friends and family members, and put in many hours a week pros-
pecting and running meetings. We also used the products and
invested in books, tapes, and seminars to grow ourselves as well as
our business. We just knew our commitment would reward us
someday. We had dreams and absolutely no one was going to pre-
vent us from achieving them.
We were revved up and working harder than ever before to
make our dreams come true. And, just like everyone else in network
marketing, or any business for that matter, we had our moments of
serious frustration. Then one day, we started talking about how
valuable it would be to read a book about people from all walks of
life who succeeded in this business. We weren’t interested in a
“how to” book per se; instead, we wanted to immerse ourselves in a
collection of inspiring conversations with some of the leaders in the
industry. We searched for months but couldn’t find anything any-
where that fit this description. We were honestly shocked! We
couldn’t imagine the ever-growing network marketing industry
without this kind of book. So we decided to write it ourselves.
We wanted to create a book that would inspire network market-
ers when they got frustrated. We wanted to create a book that would
remind them that the opportunity network marketing offers is truly
a wonderful gift-like a beautiful rainbow.
When a rainbow appears, it seems to force you to pay atten-
tion to and appreciate the beauty around you, rather than take
it for granted. When that multi-colored arc lights up the sky,
doesn’t virtually everyone who notices it stop what they’re doing to
admire it? You may even see drivers pulling over to the side of the
road and taking pictures. You’ll probably see people smiling and
pointing and absorbing the magnificent scene. And when it finally
disappears, those who were fortunate enough to spot it feel lucky to
have witnessed this seemingly miraculous event.
That same feeling is what we hope this book has generated in
you, as well as in the hearts of millions of network marketing pros-
pects and distributors around the world.
Not surprisingly, most of the companies we contacted were more
than willing to have their leaders participate. We suddenly found
ourselves with a huge list of people to interview. And we received
over a hundred phone calls from leaders, as well as from companies
who also wanted their leaders to be included in the book! We were
excited.
We continued to diligently build our network marketing business
and write this book at the same time. We were finally on the road to
controlling our destinies and sharing the beauty of the network
marketing industry. Our heads were spinning. Life couldn’t have
been better!
And then, about three months later, we were faced with some se-
rious challenges of our own-the details of which aren’t important.
The wonderful thing is-the inspiration we gained from the inter-
views with the leaders in this book kept us going. And they can do
the same for you!
After talking with so many truly successful people, some of
whom endured far worse difficulties than any of our challenges, we
realized, first-hand, that our efforts were worth it. We wanted to
provide a book that would motivate new, as well as seasoned, net-
work marketers-and we got motivated in the process.
What validation-the book did what it was envisioned to do!
We knew that many of our difficulties were just small hurdles.
They really didn’t change the fact that we still had dreams to
achieve and that we could still accomplish what we set out to do.
How could we forget the words of Roland Fox who said he had
tried 25 different opportunities before he finally succeeded in net-
work marketing? How could we ignore Lydia Chan’s success, a
woman who spoke little English? Or how about the late Ken Pon-
tious? His father had constantly put him down and told him he
would never be successful at anything. He, of course, then went on
to achieve more than he could possibly imagine in network marketing?
What about Lisa Wilber, the woman who wanted to quit every
day her first year–but stuck it out and is now happier than ever?
And how could we not remember the success story of J.K. Baker?
He said his banker laughed in his face when he talked about getting
into network marketing. And what about the other 45 people we in-
terviewed?
Since they did it, so could we-and you can too!
Our only recourse was to forge ahead and continue on our jour-
ney, in spite of the roadblocks that seemed to be in our way. We
took the advice of these Dream Achievers. We were committed to
sharing with our readers that they need to have the faith that they
can achieve their dreams-regardless of the obstacles they need to
overcome. When you have a chance to control your destiny, like
network marketing enables you to do, think about what Jan Ruhe
says, “You can either jump on the ship or watch it sail by.”
We have overcome one of the greatest challenges of our lives,
and are now going strong again. We are, once more, excited about
our futures and on our way to achieving our dreams. How about

continue to enlighten us as we journey on to find our dreams at the
