🇳🇬 Nigerian-made or Nigeria-assembled cars & manufacturers
Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM)
IVM is Nigeria’s first indigenous automobile manufacturer, headquartered in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Models produced by Innoson include:
IVM G80 — a mid-size SUV.
IVM G40, IVM G5T, IVM G6T — other SUV / crossover / utility-vehicle models.
IVM Caris (compact car), IVM Fox (sedan), as well as various pickups and minibuses.
The company claims around 70% of parts for its vehicles are produced locally.
Locally assembled foreign-brand cars
Several international vehicle brands have assembly plants in Nigeria — meaning some “made in Nigeria” cars come from global brands, but assembled locally.
Nissan — e.g. Nissan Patrol, Nissan Almera, Nissan NP300 have been assembled in Nigeria.
Hyundai — some of its models have also been assembled in Nigeria under local plants.
Peugeot — via the local plant run by Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria (DPAN), cars like Peugeot 301, Peugeot Landtrek (pickup), Peugeot 3008 (SUV), Peugeot 5008 (seven-seater SUV), and Peugeot 508 are listed among locally assembled models.
⚠️ Special / Historic Cases
Izuogu Z-600 — a prototype small car developed in 1997 by engineer Ezekiel Izuogu. It was the first indigenous Nigerian-designed car, with ~90% of components locally made.
However — the Z-600 never went into mass production due to financial and political hurdles.
🏭 Context: Why “Made in Nigeria” often means “Assembled in Nigeria”
The country’s automotive industry includes both fully indigenous manufacturers (like Innoson) and local-assembly plants of foreign brands.
Local assembly helps reduce import dependency and can bring prices lower — which is part of national auto-industry development plans.
