UNIJOS seeks justice for 300-level student allegedly m8rdered by his colleague

The management of the University of Jos said it would work with police and other security agencies to ensure justice is served for Peter Mafiyai, a 300 Level student of the Department of Banking and Finance of the institution.

LIB reported that that Mafiyai was m8rdered and buried allegedly by his colleague, Nanpon Timnan, a 200 Level student of the Department of Agricultural Science.

The suspect, who was said to be the victim’s friend, allegedly buried Peter in a shallow grave on Friday after k!lling him.

Speaking on behalf of the university, the Registrar of the institution, Dr. Rejoice James Songden, condemned the incident and vowed to ensure justice for the victim.

“The university has received with deep sadness the report of the unfortunate incident involving two students of the university, which tragically resulted in the d3ath of Peter Mafuyai, a 300 Level student of the Department of Banking and Finance, allegedly m8rdered by his friend, Nanpon Timnan, a 200 Level student of the Department of Agricultural Science,” he stated. 

“The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the council, management, staff, and students of the university, expresses his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased student and prays for God’s comfort and strength to bear the loss during this painful period.”

She, however, denied that the incident happened within the school premises.

“The Management wished to clarify that the said incident occurred off campus, not within the university premises as erroneously reported by some media outlets. It was further explained that the university had since completed the 2024/2025 academic session on August 30, 2025; therefore, students were not in session at the time of the incident.”

“Students are expected to resume the 2025/2026 academic session on November 10, 2025. The Management of the University deeply regrets this tragic development and assures parents, guardians, students, staff, and the general public that adequate security measures are in place to safeguard lives and property within the university environment. 

The university is cooperating fully with relevant security agencies who have since commenced investigation into the matter to ensure that justice is served and that such occurrences are forestalled in the future.”
