Patricia Coffee Brewers

A neon-pink “Sunshine” sign is splashed across the ceiling of this central laneway stalwart, and for Patricia’s regulars, its daily filter or espresso is exactly that. The famously friendly team roasts its own beans twice a week, and it serves these rich, black rays of happiness to a very Melbourne mix of artists, students and corporates.

Pellegrini’s Espresso Bar
At this Italian-Australian institution since 1954, the original owners of Pellegrini’s imported one of the first-ever espresso machines into the city. Today, it serves Vittoria Coffee, one of Australia’s most popular big-name brands. It’s not uncommon to see dapper Italian gentlemen in their tan suits and fedoras shooting the breeze over macchiatos and biscotti.
279
Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese coffee culture have a strong presence in Melbourne, and this bright and welcoming Japanese café inside a charming old corner terrace is one of the best. They make a great “magic” at 279, best enjoyed with a musubi rice ball topped with housemade furikake.
